Obituary

CHICOPEE – Marie A. (Houle) Brackenhoff, 77, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, June 15, 2015. She passed into Eternal Life in Belchertown at her brother, Robert, and his wife, Nancy’s, home surrounded by the care and comfort of her family. She was born in Torrington, Connecticut on April 9, 1938, a daughter of the late Alcide H. Houle, Sr. and Katherine E. (McEvady) Houle. At a young age, her family moved to Holyoke where she was raised and schooled. She married her husband, Ronald, in 1958 and, as the wife of a career Air Force veteran, she traveled to several of his duty stations before he retired in 1974 from Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee. They resided in Chicopee and later moved to Florida for several years before returning to Chicopee in 1999. Marie was employed for many years at the former A. G. Spalding Company in Chicopee and later worked as a sales associate at Walmart in Chicopee. During her leisure time, Marie enjoyed reading but most of all, she was a loving mother and mémère who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a longtime communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville. She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald L. Brackenhoff who was Called Home on November 19, 2002. They were married on December 31, 1958 in the Chapel at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee and were blessed with over 43 years of happiness together. She leaves her devoted daughter and “wonderful son-in-law”, Dawn M. Lawlor and her husband, Daniel, of Chicopee; her six cherished grandchildren, Brianna, Brandon, Bridget, Benjamin, Blain and Jessica Lawlor; her great-grandson, Vincent; her five dear brothers and sister, Donald Houle and his wife, Barbara, of Belchertown, Alcide “Jiggs” Houle and his wife, Marlene, of Utah, Frances Juchno and Robert Houle and his wife, Nancy, all of Belchertown, Denis Houle and his wife, Marybeth, of Granby and Lawrence Houle and his wife, Celeste, of Florida; her sister-in-law, Cheryl Houle of Chicopee; and her many nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Brackenhoff and Houle families. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her brother, Armand T. Houle who was Called Home on December 7, 2002. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, June 24, 2015 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 7:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Committal Service will follow the Mass at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
