Obituary

WILLIAM H. PARRY

MYSTIC: William Henry Parry of Masons Island, beloved husband of Marjorie G. Parry, passed away at home on March 25, 2005, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 2, 1921 in Providence, RI, the son of the late Henry Owen and Martha Ann Hodgdon Parry. He was a graduate of Classical High School and Brown University in Providence, RI and received a Master of Science Degree from Purdue University. He was a member of Sigma Xi Honor Society.

Mr. Parry was a Senior Systems Engineer at the General Dynamics Computer Lab in Norwich and retired after 20 years of service in 1986. Prior to that, Mr. Parry held management positions at the Radio Corporation of America in Camden, NJ and Marion, Indiana, where he was the recipient of the David Sarnoff Golden Achievement Award in 1955. He was a Planning Consultant for Booz, Allen, and Hamilton in Chicago, Illinois. An Industrial Psychologist, he was employed by Remington Rand when their headquarters were in Rowayton, CT and was a Senior Partner of the Management Process Company in Norwalk, CT where he specialized in Corporate Planning.

During World War II, he was a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served as a Navigator from 1942-1945. He was awarded five Air Medals.

He was a member of the Masons Island Yacht Club, The Masonic Lodge of RI, the Society for the Advancement of Management, the Industrial Division of the American Psychological Association, the American Management Association, the American Production and Inventory Control Association and the Data Processing Management Association. Mr. Parry was a dedicated member of numerous civic organizations in Stonington and other communities in which he resided. He was an avid reader and for several years, flying his own plane, a Piper Cub, brought him great joy. He spent the summers of his childhood sailing at Quonset Pt., RI, the family’s summer home.

In addition to his loving wife, whom he wed on February 8, 1958, he is survived by three sons Jeffrey Owen Parry of Greenwich, CT, William Scott Parry (Heide) of Weston, CT, and Paul Henry Parry (Robin) of Arlington, VA. PapaBill was adored by his eight grandchildren Kaitlin, Anthony, Olivia, Zoe, William, Nicholas, Eleanor, and Jordan. He was predeceased by two sisters Lillian P. Taylor and Elizabeth P. Johnston and two brothers Herman and Raymond Alley.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 2, at 10 A.M. , at the Chapel of Our Lady of the Assumption at St. Edmund’s Retreat, Ender’s Island, Mystic, CT.

Burial at Elm Grove Cemetery will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in William’s name to St. Edmund’s Retreat or to the Mystic and Noank Library.
