Hanson - John H. Cummings, Jr. a long time resident of Hanson died Saturday June 13 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 53 years to Nancye (Woodyard) Cummings.
Born and raised in Boston he was the son of the late John H. and Doris (Flynn) Cummings.
John was a proud veteran of the US Navy having served from 1959-1963.
Prior to his retirement he had worked many years as a mechanic, retiring from the Mass Bay Transit Authority in Boston.
John had been a resident of Hanson for over 52 years, where he and his wife Nancye had raised their three children and had spent the last five years wintering in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
He was a “true outdoors man” and had loved hunting, camping and fishing and had spent many enjoyable moments camping with his family and friends at Scussett Beach and fishing the Cape Cod Canal.
In addition to his wife Nancye he is survived by his children Paul Cummings and his wife Marge of East Sandwich and Barbara DeVaux and her husband Mark of San Diego, CA, formerly of Haverhill, his sister Linda Hurley and her husband Bob of Pembroke and his daughter-in-law Virginia Cummings of Wareham. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great grandchild, as well as nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Christopher Cummings.
His funeral service will be held Friday June 19 at 8:00 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9:00 AM in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Halifax. Visiting hours will be held Thursday June 18 from 4:00-8:00 PM. Burial will be at a late date.
