Holyoke - Robert L. Cousineau Sr., 69, of Holyoke formerly of Worcester died on Wednesday March 23 in his home after being stricken ill.
He leaves his longtime companion Cheryl Dollar; his former wife Audrey B. (Dangredo) Cousineau of Worcester; two sons Robert L. Cousineau Jr. of Worcester, and Stephen M. Cousineau of Westboro; five daughters Donna M. Flandreau of Winter Springs, FL, Michelle S. Cousineau of Worcester, Lisa A. Sweeney of Leicester, Tracy L. Fullen, and Jennifer L. Cousineau both of Worcester; one brother Donald R. Cousineau of Worcester; 12 grandchildren; several nephews and nieces, and his beloved dog Misty. Mr. Cousineau is predeceased by two grandchildren.
He was born in Worcester son of Roger E. and Beatrice M. (Michon) Cousineau and graduated from St. John’s High in 1955. Mr. Cousineau lived in Worcester for most of his life before moving to Holyoke. He served in the United States Navy.
Mr. Cousineau retired from United Engineers in Holyoke where he was the Vice-President of Engineering. He previously was the president and founder of Delitec Corporation in Worcester. Mr. Cousineau also worked as an engineer for the Rockwood Sprinkler Co. and as an assistant chief engineer for the former L. Farber Co. He held several patents for inventions in fire prevention devices as well as manufacturing equipment.
Mr. Cousineau was an outstanding athlete and played semi-pro baseball. He also played on many local softball teams and coach various athletic teams in the Worcester area. Mr. Cousineau was a talented musician with many local jazz bands. He also played with the United States Navy Band and was recognized as a goodwill ambassador to foreign countries.
Mr. Cousineau was a member of the Conservation Commission and the License Board in Holyoke, MA. He previously was the past president of the Worcester Public Library Board of Directors and received the Worcester Jaycees Outstanding Young Man Award. Mr. Cousineau was also recognized as a member of the Outstanding Young men of America.
The funeral will be held from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home (www.Royfuneral.com) 12 Hammond St. with a funeral service on Saturday March 26 at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of The Rosary Church 25 Fales St. Worcester. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours will be held on Friday March 25 from 5 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
