Arthur P. Silva, 82, of Wheelwright, formerly of New Bedford, died Monday March 21, 2005 peacefully at home. He was the husband of Joyce T. (Farland) Silva and the late Idamae (Tyrrell) Silva.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Frank P. and Louise (Martin) Silva, he lived in New Bedford most of his life before moving to Wheelwright in 2001.
He was a good Christian.
Mr. Silva was proprietor of A.P.S. Landscape Service in New Bedford for many years.
Mr. Silva served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, participating in the Battle of Rome-Arno, and was a recipient of the American Theater medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign ribbon with one bronze star, the Good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory medal.
Mr. Silva enjoyed restoring antiques, camping and fishing. He was a kind and considerate person. He was a loyal husband, loving father and a forgiving person.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Arthur Silva of Brockton and Anthony Mark Sylvia of Hanson; 2 daughters, Shirley Bourgeois, and her husband Richard J., and Rebecca A. Langevin, all of New Bedford; 3 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and several cousins.
He was the brother of the late Emma Ruffino.
His Funeral Service will be held on Friday March 25, 2005 at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday evening from 6-8 PM.
