Laura (Santos) Sylvia, 93, of Fairhaven died Monday March 21, 2005 at Our Lady's Haven after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Frank Sylvia.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late August and Margaret (Jesus) Santos, she had lived in New Bedford for many years before moving to Fairhaven in 1969.
Mrs. Sylvia was formerly employed as a fish weigher at Pilgrim Fish Company until her retirement.
She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Fort Phoenix Post 2892 Ladies Auxiliary in Fairhaven.
She enjoyed camping.
Survivors include a daughter, Vivian Graham of Fairhaven; two grandchildren, Debra Canastra, and her husband Raymond, of Fairhaven, and David Rousseau, and his wife Polly, of Mattapoisett; four great-grandchildren, Krista and Jeffrey Rousseau, both of Mattapoisett, and Cassie and Kyler Canastra, both of Fairhaven.
She was the companion of the late James DeTerra.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Thursday March 24, 2005 at 10 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Bedford. Her family will receive visitors on Thursday morning from 9-10 AM, prior to the service.
