Fall River – John H. Garside, 88, of Tiverton, RI died Sunday, March 20, 2005 at St. Anne’s Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Louise (Macomber) Garside.
He was born in New Bedford, son of the late John and Annie V. (Torpey) Garside, and had resided in the area for most of his life. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in WWII. Prior to his retirement he was a marine mechanic for various boatyards in the area, including Concordia Boat Yard, South Dartmouth and also worked as a tugboat engineer for the former Coastal Towing, Rhode Island. Mr. Garside was a member and sexton of the Little Compton United Congregational Church, Little Compton, RI. He enjoyed traveling and boating.
He is survived by a niece: E. Theresa Caron of S. Dartmouth; and many other nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Eileen Garside, Annie Garside, Mary Newett, Kathleen Sears and A. Ethel Rostron.
Services to which relatives and friends are invited will be Thursday, March 24, 2005 at the Little Compton United Congregational Church, Little Compton, RI at 11:00 A.M.
Calling hours Wednesday 4 – 7 P.M. at Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd., Westport.
Interment in Naskatucket Cemetery, Fairhaven.
