Obituary

Ian M. Scott, aged 84, passed away peacefully, at home, with his family on Friday, June 12th, 2015. He was born in Leeds, England on March 13th, 1931.
His life was filled with adventures. At the age of 7, during the Second World War, he was evacuated from Leeds to Buffalo, NY, where he lived with relatives. There he was educated at Nichols School and Bishop Ridley College in St. Catherine’s, Canada.
At the age of 12 he returned to England and attended Charterhouse and Emmanuel College, Cambridge University. There he obtained his BA and MA Economics and Law, and became a Chartered Accountant.
In 1958 he moved to South America – first to Argentina, later to Brazil – working for Price Waterhouse. While in Brazil he was actively involved with the British and American Schools in Salvador, Bahia and in Rio de Janeiro. During his career there he traveled throughout the world, including South America’s remotest parts.
In 1983, aged 53, he took early retirement and he and Marilyn moved to Massachusetts and Maine, starting a new life chapter. They bought Wayland Travel with a partner and began second careers in adventure travel. Ian developed a great fondness for Southern Africa, became an expert in the region, and traveled there 49 times.
His hobbies were wild-life photography, sailing, world travel, woodworking and creative cuisine.

He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn; his children, Jane and Paul; his grandchildren Ana and Gavin; his sister Janet; his nephew Murray and his nieces Allison and Valerie.
