Edward Barnes, 81, of New Bedford died Monday June 8, 2015 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Eva (Degouveia) Barnes; they had been married for 60 years.
Born in Fall River, the son of the late Bernard and Margaret (Sheeran) Barnes, he lived in New Bedford for many years.
Mr. Barnes was formerly employed as a truck driver for various local companies until his retirement.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army. He later served in the National Guard 2nd Armor Division.
He was a lover of country music and classic American cars.
Survivors include his wife; his children, Debra (Barnes) DePina of Colorado, Margaret Barnes, Lorrie (Barnes) Baptiste, Shari (Barnes) Amaral, Steven Barnes, and David Barnes, all of New Bedford, and Bridget (Barnes) Bridges of South Carolina; two brothers, Donald Barnes of Tiverton, RI, and David Barnes of Westport; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Edward Barnes.
His Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 7 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visitation will be on Monday from 4-7 PM prior to the Service. A family burial service will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
