Obituary

CHICOPEE – Thomas J. Bowler, Jr., 68, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, June 6, 2015. He passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on April 16, 1947, a beloved son of the late Thomas J. Bowler, Sr. and Jeannette (Peloquin) Bowler. He was raised in Chicopee, attended Chicopee Trade High School and was a lifelong resident of the city. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Marine Corps and attained the rank of Lance Corporal. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnamese Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge and Three Purple Heart Medals for wounds received in action against the enemy. Following his military service, he returned to Chicopee and was employed at Spartan Saw Works in Agawam and Westfield Gauge and Instrument Company in Southwick. During his leisure time, Tom enjoyed hunting with his family and friends. Most of all, he was a wonderful husband, dad and grandfather who loved his family and did his best to always provide for them. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Lynn A. (Sliwa) Bowler. They were married on September 18, 1968 and were blessed with over 46 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving children, Thomas J. Bowler, III and his wife, Lucy, of Springfield and Lisa M. Rosario and her husband, Orlando, of Enfield, CT; his five cherished grandsons, Joshua Bowler, Jeremy Bowler, Patrick Bowler, Ryan Rosario and Brandon Rosario; his two dear brothers, Gary Bowler and his wife, Judy, of Chicopee and Brian Bowler of Holyoke; his four dear sisters, Noreen Rouillard and her husband, Roger, and Kathleen Pierog, all of Chicopee, Deborah Bowler of Holyoke and Pamela VanTassel and her husband, Scott, of Granby; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Bowler and Sliwa families. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his loving daughter, Lynn Ann Bowler who was Called Home on July 7, 2003; his dear brother, Kevin Bowler; his dear sister, Carol Lafleur; and his two dear brothers-in-law, Daniel Pierog and Mark E. Sliwa who was Called Home on November 19, 2010. His funeral will be held on Thursday morning, June 11, 2015 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial with United States Marine Corps Military Honors will follow the Mass at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday morning, June 11, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. before the Mass. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
