Obituary

Herbert Searles Billingsley, 90, of Derry, NH, passed Wednesday June 3, 2015 at Parkland Medical Center of Derry, after a period of declining health. He was born September 22, 1924 in Lowell, MA and was a son of the late George C. and Edith M. (Exley) Billingsley. Herb was raised and educated in Lowell, MA and lived most of his life in Derry.
Herb served during World War II in the US Navy, aboard the USS Walke. After his service, he returned to Derry and was employed as a wood worker at Standard Sash and Door and Merrimack Valley Wood Products, both of Derry. He was a past president of Derry Little League and was the manager of the 1959 Derry State Championship team. He was a life member of VFW Post 1617 of Derry, and enjoyed traveling with the Parkland Senior Friends and Shirley’s Friends of Hudson. Mr. Billingsley was also a longtime member and past president of the Space Town Squares, square dancing club. Herb was an active supporter of Pinkerton Academy and Londonderry High School activities.
Members of the family include a son, Alan Billingsley of Derry, NH and a daughter and her husband, Susan and Charlie Bonne, of Huntsville, AL., five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years, Margaret “Hope” (Sheedy) Billingsley in 2006 and by a son, Joseph Billingsley and a daughter, Donna Billingsley.
Calling hours were held on Saturday June 6, 2015 from 9:30 – 10:00am in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A funeral service followed at 10:00am in the funeral home. Following cremation, private burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery in Londonderry. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Manchester Boys and Girls Club Building Fund, 555 Union Street, Manchester, NH 03101.
