Margaret Irene (Bowles) MacDonald, age 87, of Stoughton, formerly of Abington and Hanson, passed peacefully on May 29, 2015. Irene was the beloved wife of the late Chester L. MacDonald. Born, raised and educated in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Margaret M. (Kasetta) Bowles. Irene was a mother first and foremost; occasionally worked at Martins Bakery, New England Art and at the family business, Frankie Mac’s in Whitman and Hanson. She was very dedicated to her eight children encouraging them with gentle guidance and love. She was a dedicated Brownie, Girl Scout and Den Leader. Irene enjoyed painting and drawing, sewing, ceramics, cooking, dancing, shopping and gardening. Irene also enjoyed family gatherings, and summers with family and friends at Cranberry Cove in Hanson and Duxbury Beach.
Margaret was the devoted mother of Donna Misiaszek and her husband Edward of East Bridgewater, Deborah Hurcombe and her late husband Paul of Whitman, Thelma “Sydney” MacDonald and her husband Robert Vitrwal of New York and Barnstable, Noreen Long and her husband Charles of Plymouth, Frank MacDonald and his wife Elaine of Fayetteville, NC, Chester MacDonald of Hanson, Christine MacDonald of Brockton, and Roxanne MacDonald widow of the late Paul MacDonald formerly of Brockton. Irene was the sister of the late Vivian, Lawrence and William Bowles.
Irene was a loving grandmother "Nana" of Nicole MacDonald, Tina Buhl, Marisa Elgart, Kimberly Braasch, Brian Hurcombe, Matthew Vitrwal, Bernice Occhipinti, Charles Long,Jr., Holly Long, John Long, Elizabeth MacDonald, Michelle MacDonald, Ashley MacDonald, and the great grandmother of 15; and also survived by her sister-in-law Thelma (MacDonald) Dumont and several loving nieces and nephews including Vivian's daughter Georgina Ward and son Anthony Zaccagnini.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Thursday, June 4th from 4-7 pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Friday at 8 am for a funeral Mass in St. Bridget’s Church, Abington, at 9 am. Burial in St. James Cemetery, Whitman.
