SALEM- Mildred (Johnson) Coombes, 96, of Salem, wife of the late Eugene J. Coombes, died Friday morning at her home following a short illness.
Born and raised in Cromwell, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Emil J. and Ellen K. (Pierson) Johnson.
Prior to her retirement in the 1970's, she was employed as an executive secretary at TRW in Cambridge for 28 years. She was a resident of Somerville for over 60 years before moving to Salem this past January.
Mrs. Coombes is survived by one son and his wife, William N. & Elizabeth A. Coombes of Salem, and with whom she resided, four grandchildren, Paul Eugene Coombes and his wife Diane of Virginia Beach, VA, Jessica Coombes of New York City, Ryan Coombes of Somerville, Amanda Coombes of Wakefield, one great grandson, John Eugene Coombes of Virginia Beach, VA, one brother, Morgan Johnson of Somerville, GA and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Eugene J. Coombes, Jr., and sister of the late Lester Seibert Johnson, Ruth Moran and Dorothy Behm.
Visiting hours will be Sunday, March 20, 2005, from 3 to 7 pm at the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. A private funeral service will be held at the family lot in West Cemetery, Cromwell, Connecticut.
