Catherine B. (Steptoe) Dudley age 66, most recently of Brockton, died Wednesday May 6, 2015 at Saint Joseph Manor after a period of failing health. Catherine was born in Boston and raised in West Bridgewater a daughter of the late Arthur W. and Marie J. (Brooks) Steptoe and had lived in Dorset, Vermont for many years.
A 1966 graduate of West Bridgewater High School, Cathy was a devoted mother and homemaker, also finding time to hold many other jobs throughout her life. Most notably Cathy was very active in the Dorset, VT school system both as a teacher’s aide and also as an integral part of implementing the school’s lunch program. Her love for children and desire to help others led to her role in making sure each child received a healthy meal. While living in VT, Cathy was also a ski instructor, owned and operated a general store, was an office administrator at the Equinox Resort, a quilt maker for Down Under and sales associate for Orvis.
In her free time, she enjoyed hiking and being outdoors, especially spending time at the beach. Cathy will be remembered as kind, caring and generous. She had a calm and thoughtful demeanor, a positive attitude and was a true and genuine friend. Most importantly she enjoyed spending time with her family and finding the goodness in all things.
Catherine is survived by her loving children Laurel Dudley and her husband John of Hawaii, Kevin Dudley and his wife Hannah of Colorado and Nathan Dudley of California. She was the cherished sister of Marie Steptoe of West Bridgewater, Paula Steptoe of West Bridgewater and Christine Ayers and her husband Paul of Bridgewater. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater at a later date.
