James J. "Jim" McCaffrey, a 30 year resident of Everett and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Friday, May 29, 2015 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following an extended illness. He was 76 years old.
Jim was born in Boston on January 10, 1939, a son of the late James W. McCaffrey and Irene E. (Scannell) McCaffrey. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system. Jim enlisted into the United States Army on July 1, 1957 and served his country with honor and pride. He was discharged on April 13, 1960 with the rank of Private First Class. Jim worked for many years as a lab technician for several chemical companies in the local area. He enjoyed collecting sports cards and coins and watching movies. Jim was a quiet man who enjoyed the quality times with his family.
Jim is the devoted father of Annmarie McCaffrey of Chelsea. He is the beloved brother of Robert McCaffrey and his wife Ellen of Florida, Rita Strout and her husband Paul of Malden, Irene Keane and her late husband Neil of Charlestown, William McCaffrey and his late wife Susan of Florida and the late Beverly Johnson. He is the dear friend of Joanne Genvale of Malden. He is the loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jim's visiting hours on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 from 9 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 11 A.M. His burial will be private.
