
LOWELL—Raymond W. Reid, 88 years old, a lifelong resident of Lowell, died Monday evening at the Wentworth Rehabilitation Center, in Lowell. He was the husband of the late M. Dorothy Reid, R.N., who died in March of 1987.
He was born in Lowell, on December 19, 1916, a son of the late Charles G. and Mary (Crosby) Reid, and was a graduate of Lowell Public Schools, Lowell High School and Lowell Textile College. He played football for Lowell High School from 1935 to 1936, and was the captain of the squad in 1936. Mr. Reid also played professional football with the Providence Steam Rollers and the Quincy Magnets.
Mr. Reid served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a Staff Sergeant with tours in Australia, the Philippines, Milne Bay, Leyte Gulf, Japan, and was discharged at Fort Devens.
Upon his discharge he was employed as a Patrolman by the City of Lowell for over 40 years. He was also maintenance supervisor at the Long Meadow Golf Club for 18 years. He held membership in the Long Meadow Golf Club and the I.B.P.O.
Surviving him are a daughter: Patricia A. Reid, of Lowell; two sons and one daughter-in-law: Raymond J. and Mary Reid, of Melrose; and John C. Reid, of Lowell; two grandchildren: Damon, and his wife Jennifer Webster, of Lynn; and Melissa Webster, of Melrose; a brother: Charles Reid, of Lowell; a sister-in-law: Ruth Bromley, of St. Louis, MO; also several nieces and nephews.
At his request, there will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend committal services Thursday, February 24th, at 10 AM at St. Mary Cemetery Chapel, Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the M. Dorothy Reid, R.N. Memorial Scholarship Fund; 250 Pawtucket Boulevard; Tyngsboro, MA 01879
