UXBRIDGE___Stasys Rudys, 98, of Uxbridge, formerly of Worcester, died Sunday March 13 in his home.
He leaves his wife of 25 years, Elzbieta (Piesina) Pauliukonis – Rudys, two sons, Rimas Rudys of Cicero, IL, and Stasys K. Rudys and his wife Zivile of Richmond, VA; three stepsons Rimantas Pauliukonis of Strafford, NH, Kastytis Pauliukonis of Worcester and Dr. Kestutis Pauliukonis of McLean, VA; five stepdaughters, Grazina Kraiuciunas of Lansing, MI, Zivile Rudys of Richmond, VA, Egle Paulikas of Downers Grove, IL, Dr. Laima Pauliukonis of Brattleboro, VT, and Ruta Convent of Uxbridge; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 28 step grandchildren; 19 step great-grandchildren. His first wife, Akvile (Jakubenas) Rudys died in 1972. A stepdaughter, Jurate Gentlesk of Haddonfield, NJ, died in 2003. He was born in Kuliai, Lithuania, son of Motiejus and Marijona Rudys and lived in Chicago, California, Indiana and Worcester and has resided in Uxbridge for 13 years.
Mr. Rudys was a teacher all his life and retired in 1971 from Michigan City, Indiana. Previously, he taught 10 years for the Army Language School, Monterey, CA, and before then was a cardboard box maker in Chicago. He was educated in Lithuania where he was a school teacher and administrator. He earned his bachelor of arts in Germanistics from Vytautas Magnus University and his master of arts in Germanistics from the University of Keunigsberg.
He was a member of St. Casimir Church, Worcester and its choir. Stasys was active in the Lithuanian Community and was Director of the Lithuanian Heritage School and was a member and past president of the Lithuanian National Community of Worcester.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday March 16 from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME 298 Grafton St., Worcester with a Mass at 12 NOON in St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence St., Worcester. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Putnam. Calling hours are Wednesday March 16 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
