George A. Berg Sr., 95, of 337 Shewville Road, Ledyard, died Sunday at Pendleton in Mystic.
Mr. Berg was born in Montauk Point, NY on May 15, 1909 the son of Oscar and Mary (Smith) Berg. A 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner, he was a member of Charity & Relief Lodge #72 A.F. & A.M. in Mystic.
He was a self employed commercial fisherman out of Stonington Harbor for over 50 years and was a member of the Southern New England Fisherman’s Association where he was a Past President. He was also a member of the Old Mystic Baptist Church.
He was married to Doris M. (Gould) Berg at E. Hampton, Long Island, NY on August 4, 1928. She died December 21, 2000.
He is survived by his children, George A. Berg Jr. of Ledyard, Robert Berg of No. Stonington, and Hazel Hodgman of Colbrook, NH, 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild.
His Funeral Service will be conducted at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Wednesday at 11am. The Rev. Lisabeth M. Gustafson, Pastor of The Old Mystic Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery. There are no visiting hours.
