Obituary

In Taunton, May 23, 2014 Donald F. Morrison, Age 77, passed away in Morton Hospital following a lengthy struggle with Parkinson’s disease. Donald is survived by his wife Deborah (Hathaway) Morrison of Taunton. He was born in Boston, the son of the late Francis X. and Barbara (Mahoney) Morrison. Donald had resided in Taunton for the past twenty years. He graduated from Coyle High School in 1954 and Boston University with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1958. Don taught music in Dighton and Plymouth in Massachusetts as well as in South Paris, Maine. He led choral conducting and repertoire workshops in White Plains, New York and was the Director of Music at The First Baptist Church of Plymouth for 19 years. Don was a bass baritone vocalist. He was also a fine clarinetist and played for local community orchestras. As a private clarinet teacher, Don had many students accepted for All State Youth Orchestra. Donald was a member of the National Music Educators Association, a lifetime and founding member of the R.I. Mineral Hunters, a lifetime member of the Oxford County Mineral Club, the MA Bay Railroad Enthusiast, a member of Historic New England and the Gilbert & Sullivan Society. Don was also passionate about astronomy, photography, alpine gardening, stamp collecting, fireworks, steam locomotives, model railroading, traveling and spending time with loved ones. In addition to his wife, Donald leaves his children Kevin Morrison and his wife Ruth Morrison of Canton, Kathleen Morrison Gorbach and her companion Watne Osbourne of Weston, Michael Morrison and his wife Lorraine of Bourne, Dawn Morrison of Clifton Park, N.Y. and Sharon Byrne and her husband Michael of South Plainfield, N.J. He also leaves his grandchildren Ryan Morrison of Bourne, Caleb and Kyle Morrison of Canton and Ella Byrne of N.J. A private graveside service for the family was held on June 11. A Celebration of Don's life is on July 18th at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church, 41 Westerly Road, Plymouth, Massachusetts, 02360. Reception to follow at the Garibaldi Club, 36 Castle Street, Plymouth, Massachusetts, 02360. Arrangements are under the direction of the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home in Taunton.
