Lawrence A. Weaver, 80, of New Bedford died March 13, 2005 at home after a long illness. He was the husband of Ruth (Glennon) Weaver.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Milton and Anna (Michaud) Weaver, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Weaver was a communicant and active member of St. Julie Billiart Church. In 1970, he was awarded the Marian Medal from the Diocese of Fall River. He and the late Father John F. Hogan founded St. Julie's Bingo, where he volunteered for many years.
Mr. Weaver was the President of Crowley-Weaver Insurance Company for many years until his retirement. He was appointed a deputy sheriff with the Bristol County Sheriff's Department. He served on the New Bedford Draft Board and as a director for several local banks.
Mr. Weaver enjoyed walking his dogs, "Ben" and "Peachie" around Buttonwood Park. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Country Club of New Bedford.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; two brothers, Thomas M. Weaver and Stephen J. Weaver, both of New Bedford; a sister, Jeanne E. Swiszcz of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Olive Paquin and Arnold D. Weaver.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Wednesday, March 16th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours Tuesday, March 15th from 4-7 PM.
Interment St. Mary's Cemetery.
