Obituary

Hazel M. (Delaney) Sabina age 94 of Brockton, died Sunday May 24, 2015 at the Guardian Center after a lengthy illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Henry A. Sabina. Hazel was born in Brockton, a daughter of the late Timothy and Hazel (Hubbard) Delaney and remained a lifelong resident of the city. Hazel had the unique distinction of being the first baby born in Brockton to receive gifts for being a New Year baby.
Hazel graduated from Brockton High School in 1938 and Brockton Business College and then went on to work for Atty. Ebben Townes. In 1986 she retired from the Brockton School System cafeteria department and previously had worked at Regal Shoe and Randy Boat Shoe companies.
Hobbies for Hazel included walking with her husband, reading and baking. She was especially proud of her family and their achievements in life. Hazel enjoyed having visitors and her door was always open. No one ever left without having something to eat. She loved hosting the annual family Christmas party with everyone singing carols.
Hazel had been a member of Ireland’s Own and a longtime communicant of St. Colman Church.
Hazel is survived by her son Michael Cutting and his wife Jane of Jupiter, Florida and two grandchildren Michelle Prevett and her husband Mark of Carver and Michael Cutting, Jr. and his wife Vanessa of Orlando, FL. She leaves 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of Theresa Barris of E. Bridgewater, Geraldine Riordan of Brockton and the late Mary Silva, Joseph, Dorothy and William Delaney, Eleanor Youciz, Patricia Belcher and Rose McGlone.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123) Brockton on Thursday 5-8 pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Friday at 8am for a Funeral Mass in Christ the King Church at 9am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
