Thomas J. Sochovka of Taylor, Pennsylvania passed away on May 21, 2015 at VNA Hospice while surrounded by his loving family. His wife of 56 years is the former Barbara Glinsky.
Born August 5, 1928, in Taylor, he was the son of the late John and Anna Baraga Sochovka. He was a graduate of Taylor High School where he excelled in athletics, holding school records. He attended the University of Scranton on an athletic Scholarship for track and football. He was a Veteran of the Korean War retaining the rank of Corporal. After 37 years of serving as a letter carrier for the US Postal service, he retired to become a full-time Grandparent. He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish (Formally St. John the Baptist, Taylor.) He was a past President of the first Catholic Slovak Union - Branch 90.
Tom is survived by five sons; Tom and wife Mary, Moosic; Jamie and wife Kristie, Nashville, Tn; Robert and wife Wendy, Clarks Summit; Bill and wife Shelia, Fayetteville, Nc; Paul and wife Kara, Taylor: two daughters Sue Graziano and husband Frank, Littleton, Co; Barb Chisdock and husband Frank, Moosic.
Grandchildren: Marissa Wheaton and Husband Drew, Ryan Chisdock; Chris Graziano and fiancee Demi Anderson, Frank Graziano; Kevin, Lisa, Justin, Brandon, Corey, Jon, Allison, Emily, Matthew, Nicholas and Grace Sochovka.
He is also survived by his sister Frances Sochovka, Clarks Summit; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is proceeded in death by six brothers, John, Albert, Carl, Joseph and George Sochovka, Andrew Sochovka Lenns; three sisters, Anna Sochovka, Mary Czubowicz and Velma Cuny.
Tom was a tremendous father, husband, poppa, father-in-law and friend who will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
The funeral will be Monday from the Michael P. Glinsky Funeral Home Inc., 129 Grant St., Olyphant, with mass at 10:30am in the Divine Mercy Parish, Davis Street, Scranton. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery. Those attending the Funeral Mass are asked to report directly to the church.
