Obituary

LORING G. BIGELOW, age 80, of Whitman, formerly of Marshfield, died on Saturday, March 12th at the Baypath Nursing Center in Duxbury. Mr. Bigelow was born in Quincy, where he was raised and educated. He lived in Marshfield for 17 years before moving to Whitman two years ago. He was a World War II Coast Guard Veteran and served as a Fireman, First Class aboard the CGC Modoc. Mr. Bigelow was an engineer for 30 years with the Braintree Electric Light Department, retiring in 1990. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots and vacation trips to New Hampshire.

He was the husband of the late Clare F. (Dunn) Bigelow, who died 5 weeks ago, and father of Loryn A. Dahlen of Kingston, Kathy A. Whalen of Worcester, Susan A. Supple of Whitman, Thomas Bigelow and Richard Bigelow both of Weymouth and James W. Schuka of Marshfield. Brother in Law of Mary Souther, Anne Durant and Betsey Croker all of Hingham, Carol Pyne of Blue Bell, PA and Carol Dunn of Matthews, NC. Also survived by 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandsons.

A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, March 16th at 11 AM at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham.

Friends may visit at the Downing Chapel on Tuesday from 4-8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

The interment is private following cremation.
