Obituary

Phyllis (Maynard) Dorsey, age 83, formerly of Oak Lane Ext., Stonington, died Thursday at Nutmeg Pavilion in New London where she had been a resident for the past eight years.

Mrs. Dorsey was born in Groton on June 26,1921 the daughter of Raymond and Evelyn (Knapp) Maynard. She married to Stephen J. Dorsey Sr. on March 29, 1940 and together they were married for 53 years before Mr. Dorsey's death on March 8th, 1993.

A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be remembered for her Sunday dinners and cake decorating talents.

She was a former member of the Old Mystic Women's Auxilliary and for many years worked as a cook at the Learned Center and assisted with the Girl Scouts Handicapped Troop.

Mrs. Dorsey will also be rememberd as a strong, courageous woman, batling with diabetes and breast cancer for many years.

She is survived by two daughters, Janice Watrous and her husband Bob of Groton, Linda Dorsey of Groton; a son, Stephen Dorsey Jr. and his wife Beverly of Griswold, 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings, Elmer “Sonny” Maynard, Yvonne “Pat” Frattali, and Vivian “Bonnie” Riccardo.

Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic, on Monday from 6-8pm. A Funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday at 11am with burial following at Elm Grove Cemetery. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., 300 Research Pkwy, Meriden, CT 06450.
