Obituary

Robert Chaffee Coen, 79, of 6 Ledyard Ave. Gales Ferry, formerly of Whalehead Rd., died Tuesday at Nutmeg Pavilion in New London after a period of declining health.

Mr. Coen was born in Providence on May 24, 1925 one of six children to Joseph H. and Anne M. (Chaffee) Coen. He was a graduate of Hope High School in Providence and was a 1947 graduate of Providence College. He also served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and Korea.

Mr. Coen enjoyed a distinguished career at Electric Boat in Groton, retiring as Manager of Plant & Facilities after 30 years of Service.

An avid golfer and walker, he was a member of Shennecossett Golf Course.

He is survived by his wife, Mais G. (Ouimette) Coen whom he married at St. Ann’s Church, Cranston on June 5th, 1947; his children, Michael C. Coen of Gales Ferry, Lee A. Ebert of Gales Ferry, Christine Moriarty of Stuart, FL, Robert J. Coen and Mark C. Coen, both of Gales Ferry; his siblings, Ann C. Murphy of Providence, Jane C. Woodall of Santa Rose, CA, Richard M. Coen of N. Providence, and Joseph Coen of Richmond, VA; 2 grandchildren, Brendon P. Coen of Gales Ferry and Morgan T. Coen of Norwich; and a greatgrandson, Cody Santos of Mystic. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Keleghan in 2003 and a grandson, Todd C. Santos in 1994.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Rte 12, Gales Ferry on Friday at 11am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow at Avery-Stoddard Cemetery, Ledyard. There are no visiting hours. Donations in his memory may be made to Alzheimers Assoc. of Connecticut, 2911 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden CT 06518.
