Patricia B. Romprey, 76, of 84 Winnisquam Ave. died March 7, 2005 in the Laconia Center, Genesis Eldercare Network after a lengthy illness. She was born in New Bedford MA on July 20, 1928, the daughter of Clifton and Claire Desroche Benoit. At the age of eleven, she moved to Sanbornton where she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Edward Sottak.
She lived in Belmont and Laconia all of her adult life. In addition to her dedicated service as a homemaker, she assisted her late husband, Donald J. Romprey in the operation of D & P Motors in Winnisquam until his death in December 1988.
She was a volunteer for many years with the Lakes Region Aires Drum & Bugle Corps and provided the former Laconia News with a weekly column of Belmont community news.
Always a warm, caring and generous person, she was a dedicated volunteer at the New Beginnings Crisis Center from 1989 until illness forced her to retire in 1997. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and each year provided the parish Christmas Fair with a crocheted Nativity Scene that proved to be a popular sale item.
Her family remembers her as an avid card player and devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox.
Family members include four daughters, Rebecca Alder of Belmont, Donna Berry of Bristol, Leigh Tilton of Laconia and Tari Woodlock of St. Petersburg FL; three sons, Mark Romprey of Belmont, Dan Romprey of Laconia and Chris Sottak of Ft. Drum NY; 20 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; three sisters, Gale Howland of Laconia, Sharon Troutman of Conway, SC and Sr. Catherine Sottak of Waterbury CT; four brothers, Peter Benoit of Ellenton FL, William Benoit of Laconia, Barry Sottak of Santa Barbara CA and Paul Sottak of Laconia; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by a sister, Eileen Sottak and a brother Edward Sottak.
Calling hours were in the Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St. Thursday from 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Joseph Church 30 Church St. Friday at 1:30 PM. Rev. Gary Kosmowski, pastor was the celebrant. Spring burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Meredith Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Health & Hospice, 780 N. Main St., Laconia NH 03246.
