Obituary

Nicolino Bonavita, a long-time Somerville resident and retired construction worker, died Monday at the Mt. Auburn Hospital, after a short illness. He was 77.


Mr. Bonavita was born and raised in Calvi, Italy, the son of the late Carmine and the late Giulia (Pepe) Bonavita. In 1959 he came to the United States and was soon followed by many of his brothers and sisters. In 1968 he settled in Somerville and raised his family. Retired for nearly 20 years he worked in the construction industry and was a member of Local 22.


He is survived by his wife Rosa (Santosuosso) Bonavita, a son Carmine Bonavita and his wife Julie of Somerville, a daughter Julia Pollard and her husband Wayne of Stoneham. He was a loving grandfather to Wayne and Rachel Pollard, and Nicolino Bonavita. He was a dear brother to Antonietta Carpentieri of Somerville, Vicenzo Bonavita, Raffaelina Porcelli, Sr. Filomena Bonavita all of Italy, and the late Pasqualina Cassasa, Filippo, Agostino, and Gerardo Bonavita.


Relatives and friends may visit Thursday from 4 - 9 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in St. Benedict Church, Somerville, Friday morning. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, Malden.
