Ronald E. Hall, 66, of Acushnet died Monday March 7, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital after a nine month battle with cancer. He was the husband of Lily (Rego) Hall.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Edward W. and Lillian A. (Feeley) Hall, he had lived in Acushnet for most of his life.
He was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church in Acushnet.
Mr. Hall was formerly employed as a science teacher at Ford Middle School in Acushnet for 38 years until his retirement. After retirement, he was employed at the Navy Clothing and Textile Research Facility in Natick.
He was a graduate of Fairhaven High School and New Bedford Textile Institute, where he was an outstanding athlete in basketball, baseball and track. He also was the first recipient of the Coach's Award at New Bedford Textile Institute. Active in Acushnet youth athletics, he was the first director of the Acushnet Summer Recreation Program and was a basketball and baseball coach at Ford Middle School.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Steven M. Hall of Taunton; a daughter, Atty. Susan L. John, and her husband Christopher, of Norton; a brother, Robert W. Hall, and his wife Carole, of Acushnet; four grandchildren, Abigail R. John, Jacob M. John, Hannah E. John and Sarah K. John; his father-in-law, John M. Rego, and his wife Bertha, of New Bedford; two sisters-in-law, Norma Bridge of Norton and Gail Pereira, and her husband Dennis, of Stonington, Conn.; two brothers-in-law, Herb Rego of New Bedford and Robert Rego, and his wife Rena, of Quincy; an aunt, Rita Thatcher, and her husband Norman, of Acushnet; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was the son-in-law of the late Lily (Monks) Rego, and brother-in-law of the late John Rego.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett, Thursday March 10, 2005 at 9:30 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church, Acushnet, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday March 9, 2005 from 4-8 PM.
