Florence Marjorie (Gallup) Comrie, 87, of Ledyard, died March 6th in Spring, TX.
She was born on September 26, 1917 in Johnson, Vermont to Rev. Almer Fisk Gallup
and Mildred Luella Barstow Gallup. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Silas Comrie on October 17, 2000); a brother, Wendell Gallup and a sister: Celia Edwards
Mrs. Comrie is survived by a sister: Marion Acton of Butler, Pa.;
3 daughters: Mildred Holcomb of Spring, TX and Janice McCament of
Mt.Vernon, OH; Christina Brady, Spring, Texas; her son, Winston Comrie of Ledyard, 6
grandchildren: James McCament, Washington, D.C.; Keven McCament, Mt. Vernon, OH; James Brady, Kristi (Brady) Yetter, and Stephanie Brady, of Spring, TX; and Drew Comrie Rochester, NY.
She was a graduate of Killingly High School in Danielson and attended Eastern Nazarene College, Wollaston,Massachusetts. She was married to Wendell Comrie on September 14, 1940 and celebrated 60 years of marriage before his death in 2000
A daughter of a minister of the Church of the Nazarene, she was also a wife; mother; and a nurses' aide for several years at local convalescent homes. She was also a well-known local artist of land and seascapes; avid photographer and lover of nature, especially birds, flowers,and the ocean. She was a co-founder and leader of the Ledyard Walkers for several years; political activist for a medical facility in the local area (resulted in Pequot Medical Clinic); Poll watcher; and keeping a "Liquor-Free Ledyard". She was also a founding member with her husband of the Preston Church of the Nazarene (formerly Norwich Church of the Nazarene) and dedicated leader in that church for many years
Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Hsitoric downtown Mystic, on Friday from 6-8pm. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Preston Church of the Nazarene, Route 2, Preston, Connecticut. Private burial will precede at Lambtown Cemetery, Ledyard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Preston Church of the Nazarene in memory of their mother and grandmother.
