Jean L. (Barrington) Davis, 82, of Allds St., Nashua, died suddenly Saturday, April 20, 2002, at the Southern NH Medical Center in Nashua. She was born in Cambridge, Mass. on December 2, 1919, a daughter of the late Kendrick P. and Mildred L. (Chapin) Barrington. She was married for 61 years to Lt. Col. Earl J. Davis and had lived in Auburn for 58 years before moving to Nashua three years ago. Mrs. Davis was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy in Derry, Class of 1937, and was a member of the Church of the Transfiguration in Derry. Mrs. Davis had worked as a credit manager for Sears Roebuck before her retirement in 1981. Since moving to the Hunt Community in Nashua, she had been an active volunteer tour guide and a member of the gardening, exercise, walking, knitting and cribbage groups and had served as an RSVP volunteer. She was renowned for her devotion to her husband and family and had been throughout her adult life a constant hostess for frequent family parties. She was an excellent cook, an avid gardener and had an inexhaustible gift for mirth that she shared with everyone around her.
In addition to her husband of Nashua, she is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Kenneth M. (Janet D.) Brown of Hollis, her son, Roger E. Davis of Auburn, five grandchildren, Michael Cadieux (his wife Karen) of Auburn, Jennifer Brown of Natick, MA, Matthew Brown of Hollis, Benjamin Davis, Rebecca Davis, both of Dudley, MA, her sister, Ruth C. Folger of Nashua, her sister-in-law, Addie Davis of Manchester, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Jean Yanuszewski in 1978.
Following cremation, private graveside services will be held in the Forest Hill Cemetery in East Derry. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is handling the graveside arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mrs. Davis’ name be made to the Hunt Community, 10 Allds St., Nashua, NH 03060.
