WOBURN: Marjorie E.“Margie”(Smith) Carter, age 71, a longtime resident of Woburn, who previously lived in Westford, died Saturday, March 5, 2005 in Lunenburg.
She was the widow of Eugene S. “Gene” Carter who died in 1984.
Born in Winchester on September 20, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Charles O. and Gladys A. (Richmond) Smith.
Mrs. Carter was raised in Woburn and was a member of the North Congregational Church.
She attended Woburn schools and was graduated from Woburn High School in 1951.
In 1961, she moved to Burlington, where she lived until moving to Westford in 1966.
In 1995, Mrs. Carter returned to Woburn, where she has resided for the past 10 years.
Prior to her retirement in 1991, she was employed for 8 years as an accounting clerk by Wang Laboratories of Lowell.
She is survived by 1 daughter; Eileen J. Carter of Orlando, FL; 4 sons; Leo F. Carter and his wife Deborah (Marotta) of Lunenburg, David L. Carter and his wife Stacy (Quinn) of Nashua, NH, Robert A. Carter and his wife Christiane (Martin) of Hudson, NH and Steven E. Carter and his wife Renee (Ogborne) of Lehigh Acres, FL; 8 grandchildren; Jeffrey Carter and his wife Becky of Merrimack, NH, Cory Carter of Lowell, Kassie Carter of Nashua, NH, Kayla Carter of Lowell, Elicia Carter of Lunenburg, Paula Carter of Merrimack, NH, Brenn Carter of Lehigh Acres, FL and Keenan Burton of Lunenburg; 1 great grandson; Tyler Carter of Merrimack, NH; 2 sisters; Nancy Tseko and her husband Bill of Jefferson, VT and Betty Carter and her husband George of Sun City, AZ; 1 brother; Richard “Snuffy” Smith of Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Carter was the sister of the late Helen Witham, Harold “Sunny” Smith and Ralph Smith.
Calling hours Tuesday 4-8 p.m. at the FARMER & DEE FUNERAL HOME, 16 LEE ST., TEWKSBURY. Funeral service Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Woburn Council of Social Concern, c/o Food Pantry, 2 Merrimac Street, Woburn, MA 01801 are requested.
