Beloved father of Kathleen Burke of Newburyport, Margaret "Peg" Marcus and her husband Allan of Saugus and John F. Burke of Chelsea. Brother of Eleanor Hubner of Wakefield and the late Asa Burke and John F. Burke. Cherished grandfather of David and Alanna Marcus and Kathryn Burke. Also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews. Visiting Hours in the Smith Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-8 PM. Services will conclude with interment at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. United States Marine Corp. A lifelong resident of Chelsea, graduating from the Shurtleff School and Chelsea High School, Fred, passed away peacefully at home Friday afternoon, after a long illness.
An employee of the City of Chelsea since 1958, Mr. Burke rose through the ranks to become City Electrician in 1974, a position he held until he retired in 1992.
