Worcester – Cyril G. “Cookie” Plante Jr., 75; of Worcester died Tuesday March 1 after being stricken ill.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Yvette R. (Desilets) Plante; his four children Susan C. McCarthy of Cherry Valley, Joanne M. and her husband James W. Gribbons Sr. of Auburn, Major (ret.) Denise P. and her husband Kevin C. Kleister of Shrewsbury and Ronald C. Plante and his partner Daniel G. Hammond of New York City; eight grandchildren Kathleen and Kimberly McCarthy; Erin, Nicole, James Jr. and Andrew Gribbons; Kelly and Brian Kleister; and Todd Gribbons who predeceased him. He also leaves a sister Therese E. Laprade of Charlton; three brothers Francis A. Plante of Worcester, E.A. John Plante of Paxton and Paul A. Plante of Saratoga Springs, NY; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two brothers George and Cyril and a sister Constance.
Mr. Plante was born in Worcester on December 10, 1929, son of Cyril G., Sr. and Flore (Riopel) Plante and lived here all of his life. He was a lifelong member of Holy Name of Jesus Church and was very active in his parish.
Mr. Plante graduated from Holy Name High School in 1949, and was still an active member in the school’s alumni and athletic associations.
He worked at Wyman Gordon, Grafton for 35 years as an inventory controller before retiring in 1990. He also worked for the past 15 years at Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home as a funeral attendant and for Professional Limousine Service in Millbury.
He was an active member and past officer for the Worcester Lodge of Elks #243 for 25 years, currently serving as their Chaplain. He also belonged to the Tuesday Elk Golf League.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2005, from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home (www.Royfuneral.com) 12 Hammond St. with a mass at 11 AM in Holy Name of Jesus Church 53 Illinois St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are from 4 to 8 PM on Friday, March 4, in the funeral home. Members of the Elks are invited to perform a ritual at 7 PM during the calling hours.
