David Lee Burr, Jr., 43, of New Bedford died Sunday February 27, 2005 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital.
Born in New Bedford, the son of David L. Burr, Sr. and Dorothy (Mendes) Burr of New Bedford, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Burr was employed by the Department of Environmental Management at Massasoit State Park in the maintenance department.
An active boxer, he was a Chick Suggs Silver Mitten Champion and later was a Golden Glove boxer under the management of the late Louis "Bucky" Vincent at the New Bedford Boys Club. He participated in the U.S. Junior Olympics in Wisconsin. He also played football and basketball in his youth.
Survivors include his parents; four daughters, Jennifer, Megan, Melody, and Alyssa, all of New Bedford; two brothers, Kenneth Burr of New Bedford and Aaron Burr of Virginia; a sister, Donna Zeigler of New Bedford; a grandson, Jervonie David Lee Burr Tavares, who was born March 1, 2005; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
His Funeral Service will be held on Friday March 4, 2005 at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday March 3, 2005 from 4-8 PM.
