Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Thursday at 8 am. Funeral Mass in Christ the King Parish at 9 am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours Wednesday 3-7 pm. Donations in Jack’s memory may be made to Old Colony Hospice 14 Page Terr. Stoughton, MA 02072.

Walter E. “Jack” Hayes 86 years of Brockton died Sunday evening at the Brockton Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband for 54 years of Rose (DiNunno) Hayes.
Mr. Hayes was born and raised in Brockton a son of the late Michael and Nellie (Welch) Hayes and remained a lifelong resident of the city.
During WW II he served in the US Navy in the European-African and Asiatic-Pacific Theaters.
Mr. Hayes had retired from Snow and Jones Plumbing Supply as a counter man for many years. In his retirement he worked part time at FW Webb Plumbing Supply also in Brockton. At one time he was a partner in Hallisy and Hayes Real Estate in Brockton.
In his younger days he was an amateur boxer in the bantam class. He enjoyed his visits to Petronelli’s Gym and watching boxing matches on television.
He was a charter member of the Conte Memorial Club.
Mr. Hayes enjoyed traveling, gardening and was proud of his Irish heritage.
He had been a longtime communicant of Christ the King Parish and St. Colman’s Church.
In addition to his wife he is survived by 2 sons and 2 daughters of Michael F. Hayes of Bridgewater, John D. Hayes, Mary DeMulis and Helen A. Farrah all of Brockton. .Eight grandchildren.
A brother Vincent Hayes and a sister Helen Caffelle both of Brockton and many nieces and nephews
He was the brother of the late Joseph Hayes.
