Anne Tyler Smith passed away Friday, May 15, 2015 at the age of 93. Anne was born on September 25, 1921. She grew up in Algonquin Park, Norfolk, Virgina where she raced the Hampton One Design boat built by her father and made her debut to Norfolk society as a young lady. She graduated from the College of William and Mary and later married the late Roger I. Smith of Mystic, CT in 1950.
Anne and her husband lovingly raised five children and always with a green thumb, had a lifelong love of growing plants, including orchids, azaleas, and tropical fruit trees. Restoring, authentically rehabilitating and then living in period 18th century colonial homes was the chosen path for her and Roger.
Anne was extremely creative and her hobbies included quilting, painting, and creating animal figurines out of both clay and wood. But most of all, Anne enjoyed raising her children, and seeing her eleven grandchildren grow and thrive.
Anne leaves behind her afore mentioned children and their familes: Peter Smith of Stafford, CT, Mark Smith and his wife Christine of Noank, CT, Allison Treadwell and her husband Bruce of Mohawk, NY, Stephen Smith of Ashford, CT and Richard Smith and his wife Sarah of Sarasota, FL; and grandchildren: Kelsey, Nicholas, Shannan, Olivia, Stephanie, Kaitlin, Victoria, Nathaniel, Jillian, Maxwell and Alexandria.
Anne is predeceased by her parents, Bessy and Stephen B. Tyler, twin brother, Stephen Tyler, her sister Virginia Lee Webster, and her beloved husband, Roger Smith.
She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Anne's Life on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at 1:00pm at First Congregational Church, 993 Main Street, South Windsor CT.
