Billy W. Smith, 84, of Johnston, died Saturday surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Doris M. (Faford) Smith.
Born in Asheville, NC, a son of the late George and Edith (Wright) Smith. He had lived in Johnston and had previously lived in Providence. He was a US Navy veteran having served 30 years before retiring. He had also been a Heat Treatment Technician with CI Hayes for 31 years before retiring.
Besides his wife, he leaves his children, Thomas W. Smith and his wife Frances of Prosper, TX, Cheryl Lopes and her husband Dan of Conway, SC, Rhonda Keene and her husband David of Smithfield and Gary Smith of Johnston, his siblings, James Smith, Patsy Goble, Harold Smith and Geneva Smith. He also leaves nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 11am in the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Burial with military honors will be in the RI Veteran’s Cemetery, Exeter. Visitation Tuesday from 5 to 7pm. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
