Obituary

BEVERLY: Mary Lou (Davis) Mital, 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at her home in Stratham, NH surrounded by loving family after a strong fight with cancer.
Mary Lou was born and raised in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late William and Aldena Davis. Mary Lou was a graduate of Holy Family High School in New Bedford and College Misericordia in Dallas, PA where she received her Bachelor’s degree and met her late husband, Jim Mital. She went on to earn her Master’s degree in education from Cambridge College in Cambridge, MA. She had resided in Beverly for over forty years before moving to Stratham two years ago.
Mary Lou was a wonderful math teacher, serving over thirty years between Beverly High School and Danvers High School throughout her career. During this time she found joy coaching the cheerleaders and Pantherettes at Beverly High School. Some of her many passions included crafting, swimming and cheering on all of the Boston sports teams. She loved traveling and spent many summers as a child on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket and as an adult spent her winters in Florida. Mary Lou is remembered for her many accomplishments, including founding and serving as president of the Garden City Quilters Guild. Her most notable quilt, which she led the creation of, is the Millennium Quilt that now hangs in Beverly City Hall.
She is survived by her longtime companion, Robert Koczwara of Framingham, MA; her two daughters, Karen Corcoran and her husband, Robert of Beverly, MA and Laura Wood and her husband, John of Stratham NH; her six loving grandchildren, Timothy, Meghan and Ryan Corcoran and Jessica, Katelyn and Melissa Wood; her brother, Robert Davis of Beverly and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her husband, James Mital and her son, William Mital. Mary Lou was an inspirational woman to all whom she met, and she will be deeply missed.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday in St. Margaret’s Church, Hale St., Beverly Farms at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Monday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
