Bristol - George A. Corrette II, 78, died on 10 May 2015 after a period of declining health. He has been a resident of Bristol for over 35 years.
George was born on July 18, 1936, in Lebanon, New Hampshire, to George A. and Madeline (Sydney) Corrette. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1954, and Plymouth Teachers' College in 1958. He continued his education at the University of Michigan, earning a Masters of Physics and Math in 1962.
George married Shirley Solari in 1956, his life-long confidante and friend. They enjoyed 58 years of married life together. They had three children in whom they instilled the values of hard work and honesty, gave them a deep appreciation of the natural world, and set an example of true love and compassion in all they did.
In his professional life, he worked over 40 years in public education as a Physics and Mathematics teacher, a science department chairperson, a central office administrator and an educational consultant. George taught Physics and Math at Laconia High School for ten years before becoming a central office administrator in 1972. In 1978, George became the Superintendent of Schools at S.A.U. #4 and Newfound Area School District and served in that position for 15 years before his retirement in 1993. He then did consulting work for school districts and towns in New Hampshire and Vermont for the following ten years.
During his career and in retirement, George served on many non-profit boards including the NH Council on Arts, New Hampshire Public TV, Genesis Behavioral Health, Newfound Lake Regional Association, Bristol Senior Services, and Bristol Energy Committee. George was a 35 year member of Bristol Rotary Club, serving two terms as club president and over 15 years as club secretary. He was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary International. George was also pleased to have the opportunity of working with the Minot-Sleeper Library, being the Treasurer for the Trustees during the years he served. In retirement, George also enjoyed stained glass work, creating many beautiful items for friends and family.
Survivors include Shirley, George's wife of 58 years, and his three children; Kimberly, and her husband Bob, Stephanie and her husband Joshua, and George III and his partner Fair. George leaves five grandchildren, Elena, Savannah, Tenzing, Madeline and Dove. He is also survived by his five brothers, Bob, Bruce, Tim, Keith and Brian, his sister, Betty, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
