Obituary

Virginia M. “Ginny” ( Murray) Smith, 91, formerly a resident of Fairfield CT for over 60 years, died Wed Feb 23, 2005 at St. Patrick’s Manor in Framingham, MA.
Born in New York City she was raised in Bridgeport CT. As a young woman she was a competitive long distance swimmer in Long Island Sound, and had defeated Gertrude Ederle, who later won an Olympic medal. She served as an Administrative secretary to First Selectman John J. Sullivan of Fairfield, a position she held for over 20 years. She was also a member of the Guild at St. Thomas Church in Fairfield and had competed in several 10 Pin-bowling leagues in the area. She also volunteered with the Red Cross and had been active with the American Legion.
Wife of the late Adrian G. “Ade” Smith she is survived by her daughters Patricia S. Adair of Newton, MA and Geraldine S. Taylor and her husband Harvey of Sudbury, MA, her grandchildren Stacy Adrienne Taylor and Steven Jerome Taylor, and Evan S. Adair and Susan S. Adair, and her brother Kenneth Osterberg of CT. She was the mother in law of the late James H. Adair, and sister of the late Irene Green, Richard “Jerry” Murray, Victor Murray and Charles Osterberg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Chapel of St. Patrick’s Manor, 863 Central St. Framingham. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting prior to the mass from 8:30 until 9:15 AM.
There will also be visiting hours in the Shaughnessey Funeral Home 50 Reef Rd Fairfield, CT on Sun Feb 27 from 4-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Thomas Church Fairfield CT on Mon at 9 AM .Interment will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery, Fairfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Manor 863 Central St. Framingham, MA 01701.
