Bernard E. Dilling,87,of 104 Blaine Ave., died Wednesday, Feb. 23 at UMASS Memorial Hospital in Worcester after a long illness.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Pauline (Leger) Dilling, five daughters Gayle P. Snow of New Hartford, Ct., Joanne M. wife of Fred O'Coin, Nancy J. wife of William McComas, and Jane B. wife of Edward Forestiere all of Spencer and Louise A. wife of Michael Meyerdierks of E.Brookfield, a brother Wilford Dilling of No.Brookfield, three sisters Ruth Miner, Myrtle Rebello and Loretta Ledger all of N.Broookfield, 16 grand, 5 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a daughter Donna A. Marrs who died in 1998, two brothers Raymond and Ernest Dilling and two sisters Pauline M. Dilling and Shirley Rogers.
Mr. Dilling was an expeditor at Telechron Div. of General Electric for 21 years and then worked for 8 years at Palmer Coach, before retiring in 1982.
He was an Army veteran of WWII, and was in 5 battle campaigns including the invasion on Omaha Beach in Normandy. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, the VFW Post 3439 in N.Brookfield, So. Spencer Community Club and the Lashaway Senior Citizens Club. He attended N.Brookfield Schools.
Born in Lowell, he was the son of Bernard and Evelyn (Gaucher) Dilling and lived here since 1949.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 26 from the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, No.Brookfield Rd., E.Brookfield. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, E.Brookfield with Military Honors.
