Obituary

Maria Ciarcia, a long-time Somerville resident and retired seamstress, died Tuesday, at the Massachusetts General Hospital, surrounded by a loving family. She was 92.


Born and raised in Sicily, she was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and the late Giuseppina (LaRosa) Ciarcia. After coming to the United States, she settled in Somerville where she made her home since 1948. A talented seamstress, Maria worked with several exclusive designers and was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union.


A devote woman, family and church were most important to Maria. She was an active member of the St. Ann Parish community and a member of the Our Lady of Tears Society. During her more active years, she regularly attended mass and devotions at the Workers Shrine at Arch St. in Boston.


Maria was a devoted sister to the late Salvatore Ciarcia, Francesca Caraco and Carmelina “Millie” Listro. She was a loving aunt to Connie Listro, Ron and Mary Listro, Tony and Maggie Caraco, Joe and Ava Caraco, Luigi Caraco, Concettina Fontana, Mary Ciarcia, Joe and Betty Ciarcia and dear sister in law of Nancy Ciarcia.


Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Friday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Ann Church, 399 Medford Street, Somerville, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family Thursday 4 - 8. Services will conclude with burial at St. Michael Cemetery, Roslindale.


In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Maria´s name to the Xaverian Missionaries, 101 Summer St., Holliston, MA 01746.
