WORCESTER-Hugh F. Cournyn, 86, of 45 Wabash Avenue, died Tuesday, February 22nd in Millbury Healthcare Center after an illness. His wife Rita M. (Paquette) Cournyn died in 1988. He leaves a son, John H. Cournyn and his wife Nancy of Worcester, a sister Ethel Sinn of Boulder, CO, many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a son, David M. Cournyn in 1988, a brother George Cournyn and a sister Gertrude Cournyn Dillaire.
He was born in Worcester the son of Hugh T. and Helen (St. Mary) Cournyn and served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army during World War II, receiving a Purple Heart and a Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Cournyn retired from Wyman Gordon Company where he was a machinist for many years.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 2nd from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue at 11:00 AM in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday, February 25th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
