Gerald E. Williams, 76, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, February 21, 2005, at Dorminy Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Randell Daniell officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00, Tuesday evening, at the funeral home.
Mr. Williams was born August 8, 1928, in St. Petersburg, Florida, to the late Clarence T. and Hattie Jinks Williams. A retired farmer, he lived in the community most of his life and for eighteen years was a Rural Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service. Mr. Williams was an avid golfer, a former member of the Board of Directors for Farm Bureau, Soil Conservation and Water Management, and Irwin E.M.C. He has been Young Farmer Of The Year, Ben Hill County Farmer of the Year, and Soil and Water Conservationist of the Year. Mr. Williams was a member and served on the Administrative Board of Pine Level United Methodist Church.
Mr. Williams is survived by his wife: Betty Meadows Williams, Fitzgerald; daughter: Mary W. Carne, Conyers; son-in-law: Gene Carne, Charlotte, NC; grandchildren: Caree C. Thomas and Chad Carne, both of Lawrenceville; great-grandchildren: Brady Williams Thomas and Carter White Thomas, both of Lawrenceville; two brothers: Royce C. Williams, Fitzgerald and Earl C. Williams, Conyers; one sister: Sylvia J. Woods, Fitzgerald; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, C.T. Williams, Jr.
