LOWELL—Raymond J. Craig, 94 years old, a longtime resident of Lowell, died Sunday afternoon, February 20th, at his home, in Lowell. He was the husband of the late Helen (Burndrett) Craig, who died in 1989.
He was born in Lowell, on June 10, 1910, a son of the late Charles A. and Elizabeth F. (Lees) Craig. He graduated from Lowell High School.
For most of his working life, Mr. Craig was the foreman of Lees Textile Company, in Lowell. He was a member of Matthews Memorial Church, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher. For many years, he was a Scoutmaster of Troop 16 which met at the church. He also held membership in the Order of the Arrow, the Order of Demolay, and the Republican City Committee.
An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Craig spent many years camping and hiking in the White Mountains. He made his last solo camping trip at the age of 85.
Surviving him are a daughter and son-in-law: Gail E. and Charles Gordon, of Chelmsford: two sons: Robert A. Craig, of Hudson, NH; and Richard O. Craig, of Lowell; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 1 until 2 PM on Wednesday, February 23rd, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). His funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 PM at the funeral home. Burial in the Edson Cemetery, Lowell.
