Shirley A. Clark, 79 of Salem, New Hampshire, died on May 7, 2015 surrounded by her loving family in Londonderry, New Hampshire after a five and a half year courageous battle with multiple myeloma.
Shirley was born in Canton, New York on February 22, 1936. She was the daughter of John and Catherine Lumley. She was predeceased by her brother Dennis R. Lumley in 2002. Shirley graduated from Canton Central School in 1953. She was an accomplished musician playing the clarinet and piano. Upon graduating from high school, she attended Watertown School of Commerce. She briefly worked at the St. Lawrence Farm Bureau prior to meeting her husband Joseph J. Clark of Methuen, Massachusetts. They were married on April 26, 1958 in a civil ceremony in Oswegatchie, New York. Shortly thereafter, the couple moved to Lawrence, Massachusetts and later relocated to Salem, New Hampshire where they have resided for the last fifty four years. Shirley’s “second family” which she was very passionate about was at the Lawrence Boys and Girls Club where she worked for fifty years as an administrative assistant. Shirley worked in three clubs in Lawrence before retiring from the Lawrence Boys and Girls Club on Water Street in 2010. While employed, she was the recipient of the Jeanne Melucci Service Award in 1998 and the Billy Robertson Service Award in 2010. Shirley loved everyone and everything. She and her husband have owned nine St. Bernard Dogs and was quite known in the neighborhood. She also was an avid New England Sports fan and enjoyed watching the Bruins, Patriots, Red Sox and Celtics. A highlight for her was meeting some of her favorite New England players including: Gerry Cheevers, Johnny Bucyk, Derek Sanderson and Teddy Brushci.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Joseph; her son Michael, wife Patricia and their three children: Candice , Jenna and Allison and her daughter Kathleen, husband Kenneth and their two children Samantha and Ian. She will be greatly missed!
At her request, the family will be holding a private celebration of life ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence, 136 Water Street, Lawrence, MA 01841.
