Obituary

Charles R. Hawkins, 68, of Irwinville, Georgia, died Sunday, February 20, 2005, at Tift Regional Medical Center, Tifton, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with Charles Bryan officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Wilcox County. Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00, Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Hawkins was born October 10, 1936, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late J.D. and Ruby Mae Padgett Hawkins. He was a 1954 graduate of Ocilla High School and moved back to Irwinville in 1994 from Atlanta, where he owned and operated C&G Construction Company. Mr. Hawkins attended Berry College in Rome Georgia and after moving back to Irwin County, worked as a Para-Legal. He was also a former Insurance Salesman for Liberty National Life Insurance Company. Mr. Hawkins was a volunteer for the Blue-Gray Community Hospice and the Christian Kitchen. He was a member of Irwinville Baptist Church and the American Legion and a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Hawkins is survived by his wife: Marie Hodge Hawkins, Irwinville; five daughters: Deborah Schirm, Mentor, OH, Melissa Blackman, Omaha, NE, Stephanie Davis, Dahlonega, GA, Felicia Simonton, Lawrenceville, GA and Scarlett Ross, Woodstock, GA; three grandchildren: Aidan Davis, Kc Simonton and Ian Ross; a sister: Mary Bradley, Irwinville, GA. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tara McMillan.
