Obituary

Aniceto M. "Che Che" Gilmette, 89, of New Bedford died February 19, 2005 at home after a brief illness surrounded by his family.
He was the husband of Margaret "Peggy" (Santos) Gilmette and the late Virginia (Gilmette) Gilmette.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, son of the late Marcelino and Dominga (Gilmete) Gilmette, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Gilmette was formerly employed by the Exxon Corporation as a Chief Steward for 37 years until his retirement. He was a board member for the Exxon Retirees Annuitants Club.
He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.
Mr. Gilmette enjoyed building model ships. He was a friend to many, enjoyed cooking and helping others.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Charles A. Gilmette, and his partner Bob Goguen, of Mashpee and Daniel A. Gilmette, and his wife Robin, of Virginia Beach, VA; 2 step-sons, Robert McManus, Jr. of Plymouth and Paul McManus, and his wife Sandy, of Oviedo, FL; 1 step-daughter, Karen McManus of Randolph; his twin-sister, Maria Silva of New Bedford; his compadre David Fernandes of New Bedford; 3 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, many nieces and nephews.
He was the grandfather of the late Juan Carlos Gilmette and brother of the late Matheus Gilmete.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Tuesday, February 22nd at 10 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 11 AM.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours Monday, February 21st from 3-8 PM.
Interment St. John's Cemetery.
