Obituary

Edward Oscar Dorian, 86, died Monday, May 4, 2015 in the Home and Hospice Intake Center, Providence.

Born in Edgewood, RI, son of the much respected New England jeweler Oscar Asadorian, his early education included Norwood and Washington Park elementary schools, Classical High, and the Episcopal Church. After a two-year term in the US Marine Corps, plus a rash, too-youthful marriage, he was further educated in Baltimore, MD; Orono, ME; abroad in Dublin, London and Munich; lastly in Rochester, NY.

Several exciting years of a journey into journalism were pursued in San Francisco, New York and Portland, ME. However, academia and exploration were followed by “my most meaningful and hellish year” serving in Montgomery, Selma and Birmingham with America’s remarkable prophet, Dr. M.L. King. After which, for approximately forty years, professor Dorian chose to live and work as a teacher of native teachers in Thailand, Turkey, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, Taiwan and Costa Rica.

He, an ardent lover of books, dogs, Italian opera and dark breads, is survived by two brothers: George Oscar and the Rev. Robert Oscar. And also a doctorate son, George Edward.
