Annie “Lucile” Burgess Pate Matthews, 79, of Enigma passed away Monday, May 4, 2015, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2015, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Rev. Terrell Roberts officiating. Mrs. Matthews will be laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 5, 2015, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Darrell Suggs, Eddie Suggs, Stacy Turner, Shane Scott, Ronnie Cone, Micah Cone and Lee Burgess will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Matthews was born November 28, 1935 in Worth County, the daughter of Lonnie Emmett Burgess and Alberta Frances Parker Burgess, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Tommy D. Pate. She was retired from the State of Florida with the Child Support Division. She was a member of Tift Avenue Baptist Church.
Mrs. Matthews is survived by her husband, Ray Matthews of Enigma; her children and their spouses, Wanda Pate Alexander and husband, Larry, Danny Lee Pate, all of Anderson, South Carolina and Tommy Randy Pate of Tifton; her siblings, Grady Burgess of Columbus, Gordon Burgess, John Burgess, Hilton Burgess and Jimmy Burgess, Latrelle Cone and Sherry Worth, all of Tifton; her grandchildren, Jason Pate, Anna Pate and fiancee Matt and Donna Burney; her great-grandchildren, Cory Sipes and Amber Williams; and a sister-in-law, Polly Brown and husband, Ed, who were like another daughter and son.
